Key Rural References Database

Training & Resources at the ARC has built up a comprehensive ‘database’ of references in numerous areas of significance for the rural constituency. Primarily it is designed to help those involved in or with rural churches, but we believe it is useful more widely.

All entries (numbering over 1,200 as of February 2008) are given a three-fold ‘description’, based on a list of about 40 subject areas. Many of these categories are specifically rural, although a significant number are more general. For a full list of these categories, click here. Where possible, full details of first publication are provided; in the case of web links, the date of most recent access is provided.

The entries in the database are of various types:

• Links to relevant downloadable material (free, if possible) related to one or more of the Key Rural Reference subject areas.
• References to significant publications, not apparently available on the web, related to one or more of the Key Rural Reference subject areas. This includes material both in and out of print. (Many out-of-print publications can be obtained second-hand, or may be available from libraries.)
• Reference to significant papers or articles published in journals or periodicals related to one or more of the Key Rural Reference subject areas. Many of these would be available to photocopy from a variety of sources (including libraries). (The journal “A Better Country” was an earlier name for the journal of the Rural Theology Association.)
• Reference to relevant dissertation papers or course modules from study programmes, e.g. with the Centre for the Study of Rural Ministry or in Christian Rural & Environmental Studies
• Links to the websites of organisations or bodies with significant input to one or more of the Key Rural Reference subject areas.

This database is not in any way exhaustive, and entries are constantly being updated or added. There are probably numerous significant omissions, which we would be very happy to hear about, especially if you can provide us with all the information required for an entry in this database.
