Rural Conference 2006

“COUNTRYSIDE & CHURCH: CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES”

In March 2006, the biennial ‘Rural Conference’ organised by the Churches’ Rural Group through the Arthur Rank Centre was held at Swanwick in Derbyshire. The major speakers at that conference kindly agreed to make the material from their presentations available through the Arthur Rank Centre website.

Please feel free to consult or download any of the available material. If you use or quote any of this in your own work, publications or websites, please acknowledge both the original author and the Arthur Rank Centre, and provide a link to the original material available here.

Resource material from the conference available from the Arthur Rank Centre:

Professor John Shepherd (Birkbeck College, London):
“Where are today’s rural people? Who are they? A look at demographics”

Professor Bill Slee (Countryside & Community Research Unit, University of Gloucester):
“From Countrysides of Production to Countrysides of Consumption”

Reverend David Emison (Chair of Cumbria Methodist District; Editor of ‘Presence’):
“How does the Rural Church Connect with People? A Look at the Mission-Shaped Rural Church”

Professor Richard Farnell (Coventry University):
“Faith in Rural Communities. How do Rural Churches Build Social Capital?”
